Come on Ride the T̶r̶a̶i̶n̶ Rollercoaster

Today Ender's blood tests came back negative, meaning infection free. His spinal fluid however, did not. Since the infection still exists in his brain and spine, his doctors wanted to get a brain scan to look for swelling or abscesses, which would most likely be causing damage. The wait for the brain scan to come back was excruciating. Finally, the Nurse Practitioner and the infectious disease Attending came in and spoke with us. They said that the infection appeared to have decreased in his spinal fluid (they hadn't been sure earlier in the morning). Also, much to our relief the brain scan came back good, with no fluid on the brain (hydrocephalus) and no abscesses. For getting incredibly bad news, we seem to be really lucky. Ender still cannot start his 21 day antibiotic count as it is not clear yet from his spinal fluid. They will do another spinal tap on thursday to test the fluid again. He is looking very puffy from all the IV fluids but remains stable and adorable.

Yesterday, we were fortunate enough to hold Rooney, who is doing very well. She recieved a PICC line today, which is less invasive than a Broviac line. She will start feeding by tube again in 6 days, we are crossing our fingers that it goes well! I got to do some skin to skin with her, which we both really enjoyed.
